A joyful look behind the scenes at Costume Fitting Day—and the volunteers who helped 100 dancers take one step closer to this year’s show

We recently had Costume Fitting Day at F2D—and what a day it was! 🤩✨ From the moment the first dancer arrived, the space was filled with costumes, careful adjustments, excited chatter and the unmistakable feeling that showtime is getting closer.

By the end of the day, our team had successfully fitted 100 dancers. That is one huge job ticked off the show to-do list—and an important milestone for every performer preparing to step onto the stage. ✔️

A Day of Details, Decisions and Excitement

Costume fitting is about much more than checking a size. Every outfit needs to allow a dancer to move confidently, feel comfortable and look cohesive as part of the wider routine. Small details matter: how a costume sits, whether it stays secure through choreography, and what may need a final adjustment before the big day.

With so many dancers to see, the day called for patience, organisation and plenty of teamwork. Each successful fitting meant one more performer could picture the finished show—and one less task waiting in the wings.

The Team Behind the Magic

None of this would have been possible without our amazing costume team. The wonderful volunteers from Friends of Freedom 2 Dance are dance parents who gave up their entire Sunday to help make the magic happen.

Throughout the day, they welcomed dancers, kept the fittings moving, checked the details and responded calmly whenever something needed a second look. They worked tirelessly, asking for no fuss or special reward—just bringing kindness, dedication and a whole lot of love for our dance family. 🫶💚

Why the Behind-the-Scenes Work Matters

When an audience watches a performance, it sees confident dancers, polished routines and costumes sparkling under the lights. What it does not always see are the hours of preparation that make those moments possible.

Days like this remind us that every show is a shared achievement. Teachers, dancers, families and volunteers each play a part, and the care shown behind the scenes gives our performers the freedom to focus on what they love most: dancing.

It is easy to celebrate the magic on stage, but there is an incredible team working quietly behind the scenes to make every moment possible. Their time, energy and attention to detail are woven into every costume and every confident entrance.
